Your lyrics to Don Juan Triumphant together with the music by Misha Segal are unforgettable. Where can I purchase the music and lyrics? Your gift from God is awesome!

Looking for the lyrics to "Take My Hand" from the movie Matters of the Heart. Of course, you can't hear them in their entirety during the movie as some of the lyrics are covered over with actor dialogue.

Hi! I think your music is great! I really liked the song in 'Matters of the heart', can you please tell me which song it is please? Thanks!

It's called "Take My Hand." I wrote it with Bob Nicksic and it's not on any of my artist CDs but I plan to put it on my site so you can hear it if you like. Do you have the DVD of the film? |

Harriet, I am so dissapointed that this will not let me post my message to you. It says "looks like a website" but there is no website in my original message, and your email address in the back of Becoming Remarkable is no longer valid! So sad am I who can't express to you what I really need to say. which is, I guess, thanks for the great book. Sheesh.

Stevie, I'm glad your original message got through to me at harrietschock@earthlink.net and it meant a lot to me. Thanks for writing me such kind comments. |

Hi, Harriet: Just wanted to say hello to you and congratulate you for having not one but two tunes on the latest Helen Reddy anthology. Have always considered Mama one of your finest compositions & Reddy does it wonderfully -- love hearing it without those pops & crackles of the ol' LPs! Hey, saw a jpg of your smiling face on helenreddy.com; hence, this hello. Big love to you, Mark

Mark! Thanks for letting me know you saw that and know about the cuts. She has a new book out that's really good, as well. Thanks for stopping by! Love back to you!

Thank you for writing "Becoming Remarkable" I just finished reading it for the second time. If ever in my lifetime I read a book a third time it will most likely be yours. Thanks again for all the great insights. Be Well.

How kind of you to take the time to write this lovely remark. I'm always thrilled to hear from people who have read the book. |

I really liked your detailed analysis of ABBA classic "The Winner Takes It All" published in Songwriter magazine in the early 1980s. I wonder why you don't have this article here on the Website. If I remember correctly, you had some other articles in the series Anatomy Of A Hit published in Songwriter.
Best of luck to you!
19 May 2006 - USA
Dear James, Thanks for remembering that. I don't even have a copy, I suspect. Since then, I wrote a series of 48 articles on songwriting that were published around the country and later found their way into a book called, "Becoming Remarkable--For Songwriters and Those Who Love Songs." You can read about it on my website. Thanks for stopping by! |

Hi Harriet -- hope all is going well. I know we only had a few minutes to speak at the premier of Answering The Call, but I just wanted to thank you again for the incredible contribution that you made to this very important documentary. In "Everyday Heroes", both you and Geoff Levin, have captured the true spirit of Ground Zero -- a spirit that will live on forever for those of us who spent time there on the pile. Many, many thanks, and perhaps I can persuade you to write something for the new documentary "Angels on Liberty Street." You're the best, angel.

It was an honor working on this film. It moved me more than I can say, as it did everyone who saw it. I hope it is viewed by everyone eventually. Just let me know what you need on the new one and I'm there. |

I, too, would like to know the lyrics to "Don Juan Triumphant." I have absolutely loved that song for years - and thought I was the only one - but a quick web search has shown me that other people are as drawn by it as I am! Perhaps you could post the lyrics somewhere on your website? They are so passionate and romantic - what a great song! Thank you!

Hello Harriet, I can see from your web page that you are doing well as would be expected. It has been many years since we have been in touch, but I think of you often. My attempts to E-mail you in the past have failed, but I didn't try your web page until now. I miss those early years of demoing your lovely music and performing them live as well. It would be great to pick up where we left off and continue to make beautiful music together, but I am 3000 miles away now in Garner, NC. I look forward to your reply and playing catch up, but for now, know that I am still singing. God bless you and Happy New Year!

Harriet, Gosh, my dear friend, it's been awhile since we've spoken, I'm still searching for that 'perfect' voice to sing some of your songs but to be perfectly honest with you, NO ONE, has that beautiful passion you share with us and the world. You still bring tears to my eyes everytime I hear you music......you are not just 'talented' you are the definition of Talent. May God continue to bless you..........

Just wanted to stop by and thank you for the inspiring article in Muses' News on wit, reality and songwriting. It puts into words something that I have felt but struggled to clearly identify and express in my small forays into teaching songwriting and, indeed, writing.... (I am an English teacher with a penchant for songwriting) Your thoughts have a broad application to creativity and meaningful communication. I wish I had more of it myself but I can certainly recognise it and will be better equipped to encourage it. Thanks again!

Dear Harriet, We all have pivotal people in our lives, people we come in contact with and change our lives forever. You are one of those people in my life. As an ex student of yours from a few years back, I too lost touch with you but never lost the valuable things you taught me. I have recently written novel to be published soon. The skills you gave to me as a songwriter I was able to transfer to fiction writing. You taught me the importance of economy with words. In songwriting one has to say as much as possible with the least amount of words. And of course the other thing you instilled in me was, re-write, re-write, and re-write again. In transferring these ideas to my novel I believe I have created something of value. Thank you Harriet. Sincerely, David.
3 May 2003 - Charleston, South Carolina
David, it's so nice to hear from you and to be remembered so graciously. Congratulations on your novel! |

Dear Harriet Schock, I am a german screenwriter. Last year i board your first Album Hollywood Town at an nearby 'Flohmarkt' - that is an open-aired marketplace for used goods. So, that is not very flattering, your two songs 'Hollywood Down' and 'Straight Man' really reasured my what doing art is all about: Be yourself, do your own thing, give as much as you can and do not fall for the common definition of success, sucumbing to mediocore achievments (as you sing 'play it dump, play it safe, and they ask you to play it again'). Besides that, your other songs really evoked honesty during writing. Unfortunately mass media seems exactly to be this way. However, there are those great people in this 'business' we have to find out, people we respect and can work with. I had allmost forgotten that i already have my own definition of success. As a screenwriter, i observe all these television shows, ans ask myself what the hell they are all about. We do not need to have high culture in TV, but hey: At least i wanna be moved really deep down, when i watch them. The conveiance of deep, true, sometimes contradictional emotions, thats what we need. And thats what you gave me. I big hug of 'Thank you'. Yours Olaf I Hope to buy more of your CDs (I even got the LP!) and someday visit your seminars. I have no experience in writing songs whatsoever, but hey, thats what we here for. To learn. Should you ever teach in germany, please write me an e-mail. I would be the first to attend. It's a beautiful country with great (however broken traditions) especially the 1920's. Why not visit the 'http://www.filmschule.de' webpage? They do not teach songwriting, but it's a good starter for connections.

Hi Harriet, I truly appreciated the time you gave me in the TAXI mentoring session last Friday. It was great to see you after all these years, and the more I got to thinking about the Cecilio & Kapono gigs I did with you, the more I remembered: Helen Reddy was in the audience at the Ala Moana Hotel when you performed, and her husband got thrown out of room!! I know the percussionist was there, and I think a female keyboard player (Marie or Mary Kane?) and I played acoustic guitar & perc. with you, and then keyboards with C&K. That was 1980! I am just starting your book, and am so impressed with your wisdom. The CD is great too. I hope you are enjoying some of the material on my Demo as well. Thanks Harriet

please forgive a beginner writer for being afraid of being in the same computer realm with such a marvelous artist as yourself. As you can probably tell by now that the person that is writing this is very honored and priveleged and nervous at the same time . Thanks so much for being a great influence in my life as well as a great inspiration to a guy that is just starting to write. Thanks and God bless you

Hi Harriet, Several months ago I requested and you made a CD from one of your '70's album 'She's Low Clouds'. I was actually interested in the song 'My Heart' which brought back memories of my teenage years. It was also a big hit in the Philippines where I grew up. However, I fell in love with all the other songs in that album and this all started when I typed in your name in the search box--I just wanted to know what you were up to nowadays. I live in your home state now (20 years). I also write songs every now and then-mostly romantic ballads. Have you tried doing a concert in the Phils.?They like your type of music there. David Pomeranz recorded his greatest hits CD there and it made platinum. I also noticed you wrote a song with him on his latest CD. I'm glad you're still out there performing and writing new songs. Maybe I'll catch one of your concerts when I'm in the LA area. Count me as one of your lifelong admirers. You really inspire people. Way to go, Harriet!

Hi Harriet: Thanks so much for all your support (being tough with the criticism when required, but always with your special TLC). I'm sorry that I fell out of contact, but I've been as far away as Albania (the poorest Country in Europe, outside of the old Soviet Union). I know that falling out of touch, well, That Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady. I'm working on the thesis for my second Master's (in Applied Theology from Balamand University in Lebanon, to go along with my first in Rehabilitation Counseling from Northeastern), so that (along with working to pay the bills) has consumed much of my last four years. Thanks so much for the package on the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (and the subsequent card announcing your album, which I think that my Mom might have taken, lol). I would really like someday to play and sing with you in the same room (and not just over the phone from New York to California, but that is second best). Thanks so much to everything that you (and Nik's memory) stand for. You've graced my life. Thinking of you, Steve

Hi Harriet! You don't know me yet, but hopefully we will meet on October 2, as I just learned you will be part of the Naked Songwriters 4 Showcase in San Diego, CA, that night, and I have photographed the first three shows for the organizers. I was a fan of yours years ago and have 2 or 3 of your early albums on vinyl! I had lost track of you in the years since then, so I'm excited to learn you are still around and still writing. I'm really looking forward to seeing you perform live! David :>

Hi Harriet. I don't know if you remember me but I communicated on email with you and even spoke with you over the phone a couple of years ago when I was trying to purchase your book and was told by someone in the publisher's office it was out of print when in fact it hadn't been released yet. Anyway, I hope you are doing good and I'm sorry I missed you when you visited the Austin Songwriters Group. The book is great. I'm editing a newsletter for a non-profit group in San Antonio called the Texas Music Coalition. I'm hoping to get your permission to run excerpts from your book in our newsletter giving you full credit, of course and plugging the book as well. Our newsletter is mailed out free of charge. I know our members would truly enjoy reading your inspiring work. Please let me know.

Dear Harriet, What can I say? You wooed our audience in so many ways. By weaving in the stories behind your beautiful songs, by performing them with such emotion, and opening your life to us. Your band and singers, too-- beautiful musicians whose love of their craft shines. We had an event because of you, and the event was a success because of you! My husband, Steve, is now playing American Romance. Thank you so much for giving it to him. He forwarded it first to 'Dancing With My Father,' his favorite of the evening. We have an 11-year-old daughter... when she was born and bundled up for the first time, he danced around the room with her. I was moved to tears by many of your songs, and I think many in the audience were. Your truth-telling, life-telling wisdom touches the heart. We can never thank you enough for bringing us this evening. As we get the final tabulations in, we'll be in touch to let you know how much we were able to give to the home. Sincerely, Stacy

Hi Harriet, I just got done reading an article you wrote entitled 'Oysters and Muses'. I can't thank you enough. I'm 45 and have been writing songs since I was 15. I've been happilly married for over 16 years to my wonderful wife. One of the biggest problems I've encountered is not being able to share some of the songs that I write with my wife who is also a wonderful vocalist. The reason being is that some are about past relationships or situations (where one of my best Muses resides) as you described in your article and she is very sensitive. When I read your article I was so pleased to see that these issues are not uncommon and in fact are quite normal for a song writer. I've tried to explain this situation(muse/inspiration)in the past to my wife with no luck. In fact, we just finished recording a song and I had the hardest time getting her to sing it because of the theme of the song. Her comment ' I wonder what your exgirlfriend will think when she hears 'HER' song' stung my heart as it is one of the best I've ever written. I love my wife and have no interest in my past girlfriend. I told my wife about this article and will read it to her later today. You explained my situation perfectly and I think it will help our relationship a lot for her to hear it explained as clearly as you did. Sorry this note was so long. Just wanted to express my gratitude. Chas Hoffman
